Mil-Spec threaded inserts are fasteners that allow an internal or external threaded component to be installed in or through an installation surface. They are installed using a special tool with a threaded stud. As the stud engages and the threads of the insert pulls upward, a portion of the body of the insert deforms and expands against the reverse side of the installation material. This action contributes to a secure, permanent joint. As a type of blind rivet, or blind threaded insert, these fasteners can be easily installed when only one side of a structure is accessible. They can also be used to repair damaged threads in existing threaded parts.
